How low do you go

Some time a go i blogged on a optimum tractability  for my project. Today i found a article on the Seilevel’s Requirements Defined blog in which he tries to explain the same problem as we had. In his project the demand of tractability was even greater, till UI data elements.

In his blog Seilevel questions him self the same question

How low do you go ?

Tracing costs money and how lower you go the more money it takes to trace and maintain tractability. But what does it bring you? A better software quality and faster adjustments if requirements change.

In one of the comments Craig Brown said, also look at the v model, and don’t only test against the traced parts. These parts are all refinements of the part it was traced from, so if a error in the refinement was made you get into trouble.
