Microsoft’s cloud platform

Since cloud computing is getting my attention lately here’s an blog post on the Microsoft cloud portfolio. Microsoft calls his cloud platform Azure, Azure is like the system software on which al the other services run. It realizes the scalability of the applications that run on it, it’s an open platform so languages such as Eclipse, Ruby, PHP, and Python will also be supported.

For Software development companies the following services will be the most important.

.Net services

this service can be compared to the .net environment on you’re own pc. it allows the system  software to run (.net) code, it includes a security component and a service bus.

SQL services

SQL is mainly like the tradition SQL server database form Microsoft, only now it’s hosted for you. Since the Azure platform is scalable SQL has an build in synchronization structure to guarantee that other SQL instances have the same data available.

All these services communicate trough SOAP REST XML. In an developed application the architecture will look like this

How Does It work Diagram

The US prices are available here, these prices come with standardized SLA’s.

  • Azure 99,95% per month
  • SQL 99,9% per month
  • .NET 99,95per month

Here you can find an nice calculation script to calculate you price (see: Attachment(s): Azure – Pricing estimation

For software development companies it’s just a small change in programming, but for hosters with big datacenters this will be a serious threat.

If you read my earlier post my conclusion on cloud computing was:

My conclusion after reading this book is, this will be the future for office applications but not every thing will go into the cloud (like large ERP systems).

I still stand behind this conclusion, the Microsoft portfolio offers an cloud infrastructure to run applications (and some frameworks/products the develop applications on such as SharePoint). Not full blow enterprise ready applications that service multiple tenants, there this portfolio differs form a salesforce.

certainly like your web site but you have to check
the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling problems and I to find it very troublesome to tell the reality on the other hand I’ll certainly come again again.
